Work Experience

Year 10 Work Experience

5th July - 16th July 2010

Work Experience at CHSB takes place in Year 10. Our students will undertake two weeks in a working environment which will allow students to learn about the world of work in a "real life" working situation.

Work Experience is designed to give our students the opportunity of working in a vocation that may help with the future life choices they make. Previous students have worked in different vocations including those that are subject related. For example, we had students that were placed in catering, construction, motor vehicles and business and administration. All of which were courses available at their Year 9 Options evening.

During the Work Experience Information Evening on the 3rd November, you would have received a pack on how to access the Veryan database. This is a database of businesses that have previously hosted students for work experience and is designed for students to search a job description and book a placement. You would have also received your own login and PIN for the database. If you are unsure of how to use the database please see Mrs Pope.

If you are a business that would like to offer your services and host a student, please contact Anna Pope, on the number below, who would be happy to arrange to come and meet with you.

Here is some more information on what your son will be doing whilst in his placement:

During Work Experience

Whilst on Work Experience students will be given a Work Experience Booklet. This is to be completed by the student and employer. The Booklet is designed for the student to extract as much information about the company as possible and to record and monitor what they have achieved whilst in their placement. It encourages the students to reflect on their time with their employer and hopefully an opinion on the type of vocation they may wish to pursue.

After Work Experience

Once back in school, we invite members of Chichester Priory Rotary Club, to come in and interview the students. The students are asked to bring in their Work Experience Booklets and discuss in an informal interview how their work experience went. Feedback is given to the students from the Rotarians on how well they performed in the interview and highlight areas that the students could benefit from improving.
